My Presentation: The Planfacts

A rough plan, but a plan nevertheless. I will rewrite it after tea.

What am I presenting?
Information relating to my place of origin and Christmas holiday destination, the coastal town of Herne Bay in Kent.

Why did I choose this subject?
It is literally close to home; it was my hometown of 21 years and my Christmas/New Year visit reminded me that I must learn to be objective when looking at it. I have had every opinion you can have of it and I wanted to increase my distance from it, to truely leave it and be free from the threat of being trapped there after my degree is over. It has its merits, but only a few. So my task is to craft a postive picture of the place; to lie and to exaggerate and make a sale.

I have studied the methods of the wideboy salesman of the south and find him to be a fascinating character worthy of tribute and mockery. He too represents something I need to objectify; my dislike of arrogant salesmen. I like the life and death of a fictional character, a living research, an exploration into someone who I could never be easily or authentically. A love and a hate exercise, with understanding thrown in at the end?

Herne Bay has a history more interesting than its present, although its present is presently a cold, damp and unpopulated British resort, perhaps a little unfair. There

What research I have I done?
Lived, read, met, photographed, thought, felt, returned, sat, written... My recent visit led to books and internet as input and digital photographs and annotations as output. I have jumbled up facts and speculations and left them in a special bit of brain for my new character to access.

How does my research relate to the presentation?
Some information will be shared

How do I intend to present my research?
Through the persona of a young holiday rep who has been lumbered with the task of selling a potentially unexciting holiday by superiors who know that he is too cocky to 'back down'. He shows photos, explaining each one. He gives everyone present a handout which maps premium sites of interest, along with his tacky business card.

Where will the presentation take place?
The Interactive Arts viewing room, I presume.

What equipment will I require for the presentation?
Props
Handouts
Business cards
A computer and projector

I wish to reduce the place to a series of symbols and clip art, to trivialise its personal significance and to misrepresent it for the supposed better in a tacky holiday leaflet.
